About the Crater Lake Ski Patrol
The Crater Lake Ski Patrol was created to support Crater Lake National Park Rangers during the winter months, to support skiers and visitors at the park for winter activities, and to be advocates for the enhancement, protection and education about our own Oregon gem: Crater Lake National Park.
The Ski Patrol is a corps of volunteers who ski, train and work together at Crater Lake. The camaraderie of the patrol is rewarding and rich, patrollers ski in and train for all conditions, and those once-in-a-lifetime experiences, in one of the most beautiful parks in winter, happen all the time….
We recruit new members every year, and have many long time veterans to show us how it’s done. Ski Patrol volunteers are expected to work some, play some and learn a lot. We have 2 mandatory training weekends per year – where we cover all the basics from how the Park works, to tying high-angle rescue lines, to snow camping, to helping land helicopters. And much more. After that, we ask for 3 weekends (6 days) per season from every volunteer.
